By  |

The 2017 BMW X5 and the 2017 Vovlo XC90 are very similar as they’re both large SUVs, based on their previous versions.

However, they do differ in many aspects. The XC90’s 2017 version has a better design than its predecessor. It now looks more compact than it actually is while foregoing some luxury elements.

Whereas the X5 comes with a distinct BMW grille yet looking much more elegant than the previous generations. It has a side detailing that gives it a sporty look.

The XC90’s interior oozes luxury with its stitched leather, matte wood and textured metal. The seats are comfortable and the 9.0-inch infotainment system is swift with a clean interface. It has a greater interior space in the third row, suitable for families and boasts theater-like seats.

The X5, on the other hand, gives buyers an option of neutral, brown leathers or reddish-brown cockpit, fully equipped with the BMW iDrive controller which allows high usage for audio, navigation, settings, and operating information. Its interior can accommodate up to four adults yet it lacks in comfort as the interior space is relatively small.

Performance wise, the XC90’s standard version, all-wheel drive, will be coming with 316 horsepower version of Volvos’s turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with a 8-speed auto transmission. While the X5’s standrad version is a 200 horsepower turbocharged inline-6 with a 8-speed auto transmission. Equipped with the V-8 powered xDrive50i, it can reach a 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. The two sport modes of the X5 truly gives drivers an added advantage by tightening the suspension and providing better cornering.

Both vehicles comes with electronic active-safety systems yet the XC90 has an upper hand with its title of “Top Safety Pick+” awarded by the IIHS, whereas, the X5 received five-star overall ratings by the NHTSA.

These two vehicles may come across as pretty similar yet they are both made for different sets of buyers. So, what matters more to you; sporty or comfort?
