The all-new Camaro ZL1 is a real stunner – this is GM’s first model to employ its 10-speed automatic tranny that was co-produced with Ford. So, how much difference can this new addition bring to the Camaro?
Well, quite a lot, actually. The Camaro ZL1 is now capable of recording top speed of 198mph, a similar figure with the Chevy Corvette Z06. This means the 2017 version is the fastest Camaro ever produced.
This top speed figure is obtained via the average numbers recorded while running the alternate directions. The ZL1 managed to record 202.3mph on one way while the other way was at 193.3mph.
The Camaro ZL1 may be capable of 650hp and 650 lb-ft of torque and be as fast as the Corvette Z06, it is still tagging behind the Dodge Charger Hellcat. The Dodge is capable of 707hp and 650 lb-ft of torque and records a top speed of 204mph.
However, GM isn’t done with its performance front. If it wished to beat FCA, it will have to be capable of beating the Hellcat as well as the new Demon. Maybe the next iteration of the Corvette ZR1 may be able to help GM out on this.
The past versions of the ZR1 have been able to record 205mph and if the rumor mill turns out to be true, we are set for the model to crush even the mighty Ford GT with 216mph top speed.
