It looks like the days of the Dodge Challenger being the underdog in the muscle-car segment will soon come to an end. After undergoing many enhancements, the Challenger is finally giving the Mustang a good run for its money.
The 2017 Challenger will be boasting a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine offering 707 horsepower for its Hellcat variant. While the R/T Scat Pack and the 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker models will be coming with a 6.4-liter Hemi producing 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft torque.
There is also another V8 option of the 5.7-liter Hemi for the R/T range. This one will be making 400 horsepower and 375 lb-ft torque while the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine will be making 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft torque.
The Mustang is equipped with a V8 5.0-liter Coyote engine bearing 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft torque. On top of that, it also has a V6 3.7-liter engine which makes 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft torque.
However, the most impressive option stands to be the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which produces 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft torque. There is also a new Shelby GT350 fitted with a V8 engine that makes 562 horsepower.
Both these models will be coming with auto and manual transmission options but the Mustang appears to be lighter with improved handling compared to the Challenger. Having said that, the Challenger has really came a long way in progress.
