In getting ready for the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru is setting up to showcase several car concepts based on the STI, previewed first by the STI Performance Concept inspired by the Subaru BRZ seen in the 2015 New York Auto Show.
That concept is a dazzling visual meal, and as such we can expect the three new ones in store for us to be rather impressive.
The first is the Subaru XV Hybrid STI Concept that melds the scruff of the Subaru XV Crosstrek with some performance DNA from the Subaru WRX STI. Then there is the Subaru Levorg STI concept that is predicated on the Levorg wagon that cannot be found the U.S. market, besides a few other racing models that will be exhibited with these three aforementioned concepts.
But aren’t these just going to be teases that never materialize into anything consumers want? It is quite well-established that Subaru paints great concepts but mushes them into undesirable production pieces.
The brand is planting its new platform across its lineup, but we are eager to see if the new Boxer DIT engine will make it into the Subaru WRX STI outside of Japan, and whether the BRZ will get any better performance packages.
