2018 Ford Mustang GT500 Could Get Supercharged V8

Much like the Ford Focus RS, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is going to welcome a more powerful variant. For the Focus RS500, output is believed to be increased to over 500hp, while on the Mustang Shelby GT500, Blue Oval could actually breach 800hp.

And all that power would translate to exceptional performance figures, as far as the prototype of the GT500 indicates. It sports larger wheels reined in by Brembo brakes, a rear diffuser, an enhanced exhaust setup, and apparently a lighter build.

According to rumors, the hike in power might be achieved by means of a supercharged V8, though others contest that it would be using a twin-turbo V8 instead.

Whatever it is, it would be far more potent than the 526hp 5.2L Voodoo V8 currently equipped in the GT350 and GT350R. It would certainly put a dent in the plans of the all-new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, unless GM has a trick up its sleeve with the future Camaro Z/28.

While the GT500 would be guaranteed for the US, there are doubts regarding the other markets that it the Mustang has recently ventured into. Even if it eventually is made available outside, the 800hp stallion may run out before buyers could blink.
