Despite being rather crowded with top-notch options such as the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X, Nissan Qashqai, and Nissan Juke, Kia still fancies that it has got what it takes to thrive in the compact SUV segment.
Besides the Kia Niro, the Japanese brand is looking to release another Rio-based compact crossover to take on the aforementioned pack.
According to Motor Trend, the Kia Rio CUV is potentially a more traditional option to the Kia Soul which was the second top-selling Kia nameplate in the US in 2015.
There is also a chance that this new crossover will figure into Kia’s plans to slap a GT badge on its vehicles, akin the other two Kia Rio models as part of its near-future ambition to bring in nine more models within the next two years.
Is it too late for Kia to bring in a B-segment model, given the other established nameplates that are already occupying the space in the market? We think the Kia Niro CUV has plenty of potential, but this one seems a bit more iffy.
