Nissan has confirmed via a Twitter post that long-awaited new Leaf will be revealed globally in September and kick off sales some time later this year.
Although there isn’t any details on the new EV yet, the rumor mill has been churning out news that the Leaf will have autonomous driving ability. It’s said that it will be able to drive itself on a single lane on highways.

Aside that, it’s also reported that the new Leaf will likely look like a production version of the IDS concept shown at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Nissan had also somewhat confirmed last summer that the latest Leaf will have a range of over 200 miles.
However, will this be enough to compete against Tesla’s Model 3?
If the Leaf is released soon after its September debut, it would be about the same time the Tesla Model 3 production starts going full-swing. And, the superior popularity of the Model 3 would surely overwhelm the Leaf and deprive its sales.
