With the increasing number of hot hatches such as the Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R, and the Honda Civic Type-R, the Subaru WRX STI will be a model that sticks out like a sore thumb.
Many WRX STI fans felt cheated with the 2017 model as the automaker failed to include enough changes in the revamp process.
However, it looks like Subaru would be making amends with the 2018 version of the WRX STI. This new model will be going through intense modifications which is severely needed.
Subaru will be discarding its old design in favor of the new Dynamic X Solid design language featured on the latest Impreza.
Along with this redesign, expect to see the WRX STI becoming stronger with a tighter build. It will also be underpinning the all-new Subaru Global Platform which would greatly aid in decreasing noise, vibration and roughness. This will be providing a better and quieter ride experience which this model has long required.
Subaru would also need to dispose its existing 2.5-liter turbo boxer mill and fans are hoping that it would be the 2.0-liter turbo boxer from Japan-exclusive WRX STI S207.
This will not only enhance the fuel efficiency of the performance sedan, it will also elevate its power from 305 horsepower to 323 horsepower.
