Although we’re still a couple of months away from Google I/O 2017, kicking off on May 17 at the Shoreline Amphitheater, there are already speculation on what to expect from Android 8.0 ‘Oreo’.
According to a report by Venture Beat, Google may be pushing further with its AI – specifically inside the keyboard app by understanding the essence of your conversations via a feature dubbed Copy Less.
The report provides an example of this feature by describing a scenario where one is chatting with a friend about a famous restaurant and when the need arises to tell them the location, all one needs to do is to type out “it’s at” and Google will step in with an autocomplete suggestion of the address.
Aside that, Android O will also be able to recognize when an address is sent to you and proceeds to automatically create a link where you can select to pull up the app chooser window to finalize your action, such as accessing Google Maps.
There are also some reports that suggest that it may be coming with gesture shortcuts, just like Huawei’s Knuckle Gesture on EMUI. For example, if you draw the letter ‘C’, you could instantly launch the camera app.
These are pretty impressive features – impressive enough to even make the Nougat feel small. However, keep in mind that these are merely speculations right now; so, be sure to take all that you’ve read with a grain of salt.
