Google had recently listed a page in its search results, as spotted by TheDrive, which fueled up rumors that there could be a 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
By typing in “gt500” you’ll see a page titled “2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500 | The Cobra of Performance Cars…” pop up but clicking it will lead you to none other than the regular Mustang page. However, the search results have been removed which begs the question if Ford is hiding something from us.
If it’s true that a new Mustang Shelby GT500 is on the cards for next year, it goes against the numerous reports that had said there won’t be one until 2018.
That’s not all. According to TheDrive, the possible specs in the source code reads “Shelby GT500 5.8L V8 engine.” This is the same engine utilized by the automaker in the previous version of the GT500, the Trinity. The model could make up to 662 horsepower and 632 lb-ft torque.
This is another bit of info that contradicts previous reports that state the next GT500 will be fitted with a turbocharged motor, taking cues from either the existing Mustang Gt’s 5.0-liter engine or the GT350’s 5.2-liter V8.
Word on the street is that the new GT500 could be coming with up to 740 horsepower. However, this may all just be a glitch in the search results, so, it’s only wise to wait till the Detroit Auto Show to see what Ford has to offer.
