The success of the Ford Mustang for 2015 is largely due to Ford’s EcoBoost engine fitted into the equation, leading to one of the sprightliest muscle cars out there.
But the EcoBoost treatment is not only reserved for the lower trims, as the Shelby Mustang is about the go light on its toes with the engine as well.
This doesn’t mean that the current Shelby Mustangs are replacing their V8 engines with EcoBoost ones. It is a project by Classic Recreations that is looking to revitalize the 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350CR and GT500CR with two EcoBoost variants: a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 and a 2.0L four-cylinder unit, each respectively good for 365hp, 420lb-ft and 300hp, 360lb-ft.
Apparently the 2.0L variant is made of the market in China that charges steep taxes for import vehicles with high displacements. Nevertheless, Classic Recreations touts its modern incarnation of these classic Shelbys as top-notch in handling. The tuners can also add larger turbos for those thirsting for more power.
