Just recently, Google unleashed its Android 7.1.2 Nougat developer preview update. Despite the Mountain View giant claiming that this is merely another incremental maintenance update, it arrived bearing two major features.
Sorry to burst your bubble, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 owners; unfortunately, Google has omitted these devices from its list of eligible devices.
However, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P successfully made it into the list. This just goes to prove that Google has officially discontinued support for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, save for the monthly updates throughout this year.
As if being axed isn’t bad enough, the Android 7.1.2 Nougat will be bringing two impressive Pixel-exclusive features to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P – the fingerprint gesture as well as the Google Assistant.
Nexus 6 reaches its ceiling with the Nougat update and we can’t help but feel that Google is making it worse for loyal users by curbing the full extent of updates; the least it could do was to allow the device to reach the version 7.1.2.
