Some reports have surfaced that claimed that the Nexus 6 will be eligible to receive the Android 7.1.1 Nougat while others have claimed that the device will no longer be receiving any updates.

Both these claims have appeared to be false, according to Google’s own blog. It stated that the Nexus 6 as well as the Nexus 9, 5X, and 6P will be making its way into Nougat.

However, the Nexus 6 device will not go any further after the Android 7.0 Nougat. This means the Nexus 6 will not be seeing the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, indicating its impending death.

But, in spite of that, the Nexus 6 will not be becoming obsolete as it will still be receiving its monthly security updates directly from Mountain View for a lengthy period of time past its software update expiry date.

So, the device will be good up till November 2017 but we can’t guarantee what would happen to it now that we’re past that point. There could be a possibility of Google shutting down the Nexus program to fully concentrate on its latest Pixel devices.
