Hyundai Santa Cruz Pickup: Not Sizing Up To Toyota Tacoma & Ford Ranger

The midsized pickup truck scene is about to get a lot more competitive as both Ford and Hyundai are lining up a new champion for the segment.

Ford has already confirmed on the development of the next-gen Ranger and the vehicle looks set to make its debut early next year. As for Hyundai, their first ever pickup truck will be based on the Santa Cruz and it is eyeing a late 2018 debut.

Both vehicles share the same goal and that is to outdo the Toyota Tacoma into becoming the leading choice in the midsized pickup segment. The odds are on the Ranger’s side and this is due to Ford’s expertise in the utility scene. The larger F-150 is currently the bestselling pickup in the US and the Ranger is likely to replicate that in the smaller department.

However, it is still wrong to write off the Hyundai Santa Cruz Pickup Truck. The latter is not planning on a pure rugged offering as it intends to have an upmarket offering. The Santa Cruz Pickup concept has already shown a premium design with a car-like cabin. In addition to that, Hyundai has said that they want a nice balance in comfort and hauling activities with their pickup truck.

In short, the Santa Cruz pickup is eyeing to be an all-rounder in the segment but whether this is enough to compete with the upcoming Ranger and Toyota Tacoma is a question that remains to be answered.
