Apple is reported to have ordered OLED panels from Samsung Display and they consist of entirely plastic units, according to The Korea Herald.
The report stated that most manufacturers usually utilize glass panels for their devices whereas plastics are reserved for curved screens, just like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Samsung’s curved OLED capacity is projected to be between 70 to 100 million units, which is far lower than half of Apple’s annual iPhone sales. This indicates that they curved display may be a premium model.
The same publication also revealed that there could be a possibility of Apple utilizing a new technology which aids the device to respond when users come in contact with any side of the device.
Previous reports have suggested that Apple is currently working on three iPhone for 2017. It is speculated that two of it would be LCD models, measuring at 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches, and another one would be a curved OLED device, measuring at about 5.1 to 5.2-inches.
Well, these are merely rumors for now as Apple is yet to officially announce it so be sure to take all this with a grain of salt. Having said that, does a curved iPhone seem appealing to you?
