In the Android market, a device will be able to prolong its life, if it is popular enough. This is because they would be backed up by the hardworking developer community. The same goes to the Nexus 5 as it is supported by developers to obtain access into the latest update.

Google’s decision to not bring the latest Android update, Nougat, to the Nexus 5 had disappointed many people. However, it would have been more fruitful to complain about the lack of monthly updates for the Nexus 5.

Minus Google’s help with the latest security updates, it would be hard to keep the Nexus 5 secure from viruses. But, bringing latest Android versions into the device will be a much simpler task.

It doesn’t even matter if you’re not familiar with the works of customs ROMs as there are plenty of tutorials online that you could use. Just get accustomed to it and you’ll be on your way to seeing the Android 7.0, or even the 7.1, update on your device. On top of that, there are various options for you to choose from as third-party developers are increasing these days.

Besides the Hammerhead based CM14.1 custom ROM, there is also the CAF version, too. Many folks claim that the CAF version is better as it has updated drivers and possesses excellent audio quality. But, the Hammerhead version has an upper hand when it comes to better alt kernel availability.

Just like everything else in life, there is an upside and downside to these custom ROMs, thus, don’t skip your research before trying it out!
