The Xiaomi Mi 5 was recently voted as the most popular smartphone in China, with the OnePlus 3 expected to mount a stern challenge when it spends enough time with users in that market.
In many aspects both devices are quite similar. They each run on Snapdragon 820 through Full HD displays and have 3,000mAh battery. Whereas the OnePlus 3 has its own Dash Charge feature, the Mi 5 benefits from Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support.
But one aspect which both phones are closely tied in is camera performance, and on the specs sheet alone it is too difficult to make a judgment. You would be surprised at how the 4MP selfie camera compares to the 8MP unit on the OnePlus 3, for instance.
Well, both flagships offer 16MP for their primary cameras, and share the same Sony IMX298 sensor. Anyone familiar enough with smartphone shooters know that optical capabilities deal with more than hardware.
In the video below by trusted YouTube tech reviewer C4ETech, the front and rear cameras of both the OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi 5 are given an interesting and in-depth side-by-side comparisons.
In short, the OnePlus 3 wins out in rear camera performance, while the Xiaomi Mi 5 captures better selfies and shoots more stable videos. It’s of course much more than that, so check it out.
