Despite the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 being over three years old, most folks are still reluctant to put their beloved phablet to rest. Not surprising seeing that the Note 3 was essentially the best when it was released, thanks to its advanced features.

However, the note 3 will no longer be receiving the latest Android updates due to its age. The device was launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board and it reached its ceiling with the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

This is quite a frustration for most Galaxy Note 3 users who were eager to experience the exciting features of the Android Marshmallow and Nougat. All that’s left to do is to either suck it up and accept the fact that they won’t ever see anymore updates or forego their device for models that are eligible for the latest Android versions.

But, wait – don’t lose faith as there is another alternative. Well, they could opt to use a custom ROM to bring the latest features into their device. Galaxy Note 3 users can select either the Phronesis Marshmallow ROM or the Android 7.1.1 Resurrection Remix ROM. However, the latter is only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 LTE N9005 model.

Prior to attempting a custom ROM flash, you should know that there are some risks to it. For example, you could brick your device and void your warranty.

If you do decide to flash your device, be sure to back up your data, just in case something goes not as planned.
