The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 impresses in many ways, especially the fact that it’s the first GM model to be equipped with a 10-speed auto gearbox, co-produced with Ford. However, how much of performance boost does this grant the model?
The all-new ZL1 isn’t one to disappoint on its promise. This model is now capable of hitting a top speed of 198mph, just like the Chevy Corvette Z06, securing its position as the fastest Camaro ever produced.
The model’s top speed is taken from the average figures achieved from running the differing directions. In one way, the ZL1 hit the 202.3mph mark while the other way, the model recorded 193.3mph.
Although the Camaro ZL1, with 650hp and 650lb-ft, may be as fast as the Corvette Z06, it is still behind the Dodge Charge Hellcat, churning out 707hp and 650 lb-ft, capable of hitting 204mph top speed.
But that said, GM isn’t done showing off what it’s got up on the performance front. If it really wants to surpass the FCA, it will have to beat the Hellcat and also the upcoming Dodge Challenger Demon. Perhaps the 2018 Corvette ZR1 may be capable of this challenging feat.
Previous versions of the ZR1 have been capable of hitting 205mph and if the speculations turn out to be facts, then we can expect to see the model crushing even the 216mph Ford GT.
