The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is an appealing machine – especially since this is GM’s first ever model to come with its all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. If you didn’t already know, this new tranny was the product of a GM-Ford collaboration.
The latest Camry ZL1 impresses with its top speed of 198mph, which comes on par with the Chevy Corvette Z06’s figure. With such top speed, this Camaro has catapulted itself all the way to the top as the fastest Camaro ever made.
If you’re wondering how the top speed is calculate, we can help you with that. The top speed figure is obtained by collecting the average figures recorded while running alternating directions. The 2017 Camaro hit 202.3mph in one way and 193.3mph on the other.
So, the Camaro ZL1 is as fast as the Corvette Z06 and it can juice 650hp and 650 twist from its mill; but, it doesn’t change the fact that it is still behind Dodge’s Charger Hellcat. The latter, with a 204mph top speed, is capable of 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.
The Camaro ZL1 isn’t going to help GM topple FCA, considering the fact that the Demon has arrived. Perhaps the company will try harder in its following Corvette ZR1 iteration.
