At the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, Japan’s equivalent of SEMA, Subaru is ready to hog the headlines with a few models flaunting its renowned STI badge. Sadly, not all things may be as impressive as their names suggest.
The Subaru BRZ, which is perhaps the automaker’s most disappointing reveal of 2016, is set to disappoint again but not before getting expectations up using the STI name.
The prefix for the meek sports coupe is STI Sport Concept, which boasts some visual upgrades on the inside and outside including small front bumper spoiler, slightly beefier side sills, and some STI badges on its grilles.
For a more in-depth look at what this special BRZ offers, particularly on the mechanical front, we’d have to wait until the lights are on at the Auto Salon next month. Besides Brembo brakes, we could expect some suspension tweaks.
So if you’re a fan of Subie’s STI rides, you’d probably want to pay more attention to the other models set to appear at the show such as the WRX S4 STI Sport or the motorsport based WRX STI Japan Rally Championship and WRX STI NBR Challenge.
