Both the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class are luxury utility vehicles that are in the perfect size, 183-inches long, and made for couples or small families.

These models are definitely good lookers. The GLK used to be boxy and chiseled but the GLC looks much smoother and sleeker while the Q5 looks very much like the A4 Avant (wagon).

Despite looking modern on the outside, the Audi Q5 looks outdated from the inside, but it is the other way around with the GLC. The Mercedes’ exterior may not be that appealing but its interior is gorgeous with inlaid metallic bezels, soft-touch materials as well as a standalone infotainment screen.

Under The Hood

The Audi Q5 comes equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder but a V6 model badged SQ5 will make a comeback soon. Its base engine still remains the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder but it has been upgraded to the latest unit. This mill is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission and AWD is standard.

The GLC, on the other hand, comes as a rear-wheel drive GLC300 and AWD GLC300 4Matic model. Both of these are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four worth 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Although they have similar interior configurations, these models are constructed on different underpinnings. The Q5 employs Audi’s latest MQL architecture while the GLC is built on rear-wheel drive C-Class sedan platform.

What About The Extras?

When it comes to features, both these models are superior at it. The Q5 has excellent connectivity and Multi-Media Interface (MMI) and it offers Google Earth maps as well as easy WiFi connectivity. Aside that, it also offers Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, a highly adaptable LCD screen that takes over the conventional instrument cluster.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz has truly improved with its COMAND infotainment system; however, it is still considered to be below the Audi interface. That said, the GLC compensates for it by offering options such as Active Parking Assist system, an AC power outlet, a head-up display, heated rear seats and a panoramic sunroof.

So, which do you think is the better model, the Audi Q5 or the Mercedes-Benz GLC?

What would be great is if Audio offered the comfort, parking assist and driver assist features that are available in Europe instead of de-featuring the north America Models.

If US customers want options like air suspension, let us order it.
