Because of the difficulty acquiring the rights for Spiderman, there were scripts of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War that don’t feature the web-slinger. And it’s not just one script that omitted Spiderman – there were a number of them.

Directors of the new Marvel blockbuster Joe Russo and Anthony Russo said that they started working on the portrayal of Spiderman even Marvel wasn’t optimistic about securing the IP.

Interestingly, there were also scripts without Iron Man that were considered. How that could be pulled off is a mystery, considering the pivotal role Tony Stark plays in sparking the superhero civil war in the first place.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and comics alike are curious to see how Marvel Studios is going to portray a very young Peter Parker. Let’s hope that the choice of casting Tom Holland for Spidey works out the same way as it did for Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk.

Captain America: Civil War will be released to silver screens on May 6.
