The future of the Fiat 124 Spider is looking bleak as it was announced that the vehicle will not be getting a replacement. It was now reported that the 124 Spider and Abarth performance version for the Europen market will be ending soon.

While sales have been pretty decent, it was reported by the Al Volante that the sales were not strong enough to actually justify a renewal of the manufacturing contract.

The 1.4-liter MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder engine that the vehicle is fitted with right now also does not meet the new emission standard in Europe and to upgrade it would cost too much.

While things are ending over in Europe, the vehicle’s production here in the US will continue.
