With hybrid and electric models now becoming more and more popular, it is more important than ever than the vehicles all come with some sound so that the pedestrian can actually hear them coming and according to the latest reports, drivers might actually have the option to choose the sound they prefer.
Reuters reported that NHTSA has now proposed to have automakers offer a range of sounds for the hybrid and EV models which is a nice change since the current rule only allows one option.
Allowing their customers to have the option would help put some people at ease when getting a hybrid and EV as some of the current models comes with some pretty annoying sound and with no option to change it, people are just not too happy about it.
We do not know when the rule will be implemented but when it does arrive, vehicles will need to emit a sound as long as it is traveling up to 18.6mph.
