We have numerical evidence to prove which Grand Theft Auto title is the most successful, and it’s the fifth one with about 65 million copies sold worldwide since its release in September 2013.
That figure was disclosed by Take-Two Interactive recently, and confirms GTA 5 as the fourth best-selling game of all time.
Just ahead of its at third spot is Minecraft which has 70 million lifetime sales since its release in 2011. The top-selling game of all time is still Tetris, followed by Wii Sports.
It should be noted that Minecraft retails for $20 but costs only $7 on mobile platforms. GTA 5 on the other hand initially sold for $50 to $60, though it has now dropped to half those amounts.
Unlike previous GTA titles, Rockstar Studios has generated plenty of side income – $500 million to be exact – from the first online platform of the series called GTA Online. It has been reported that the development of GTA 6 is being pushed back a little by the studio as it works to create more content for GTA Online.
