Hyundai will be recalling the Hyundai Sonata after it was reported that the airbags on the Sonatas were not deploying.

NHTSA started investigating the airbags after reports claim that two deaths were caused by the non-deployment of the airbags. It was later concluded that the issue was with the electrical overstress in the airbag control unit cause it to short circuit.

The new recall will affect an additional 425,000 models. This is after the 154,000 units of that Hyundai recalled earlier this year. Besides Hyundai, Kia was also forced to issue a recall as the same issue is affecting a few of their models.

The airbags were built by ZF Friedrichshafen AG. AF said that they will continue to cooperate and support NHTSA in the investigation. Hopefully, they can come out with a fix for the issue soon so as this is not an issue to be taken lightly.
