Volkswagen has been looking to expand its R lineup and the next model that has been confirmed for the R lineup will be the Volkswagen Touareg.

Auto Express reported that the information was confirmed by Jurgen Stackmann, the sales and marketing boss for Volkswagen and added that the crossover will be the first R model to come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

No other details were confirm but it is believed that the vehicle will come with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will be paired with a powerful electric motor. Volkswagen is already offering something similar in China but that model had about 363hp to offer and has an electric range of 36miles.

Volkswagen also has more plans to add more electric models to their R lineup although no additional details were given at this moment.
